Wild Camping

Join us for a unique experience of wild camping

Wild camping is rapidly becoming the latest outdoor adventure for many people. However it's also very difficult to find somewhere to truly wild camp without trespassing or breaking the law (technically wild camping is illegal in the UK). Therefore we decided to offer Wild Camping Weekends at our base in the Heart of Yorkshire.

If you are new to wild camping and fancy giving it a go we can provide the equipment you need (tarp, hammock & sleeping bag) and even give you instruction in camp set up, fire lighting & other wild camping skills.

Alternatively if you are looking for somewhere to wild camp contact us for availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • What is Wild Camping?

Wild Camping is camping in nature with as little ameanities as possible. It's a great way to escape the day to day hustle and bustle of life and enjoy some tranquility.

  • What amenities do you have on site?

Whilst wild camping is about minimal living, we understand that somethings are a must have for most folk.

We have Portaloos onsite throughout your stay and access to tap water. Unless stated elsewhere (e.g. event weekends) you must provide your own equipment, food & provisions for the duration of your stay.

Please be aware there isn't a shop onsite.

  • What are the rules for Wild Camping at your location?

Whilst we are generally quite relaxed about things around here, there are some key rules.

The No.1 rule of Wild Camping is "Leave no trace"

    Fires:

All fires must be in a fire pit or contained as not to set fire to the ground and leave scorch marks. Fire pits can be hired if required.

Only fire wood brought in by yourself or purchased from us must be used for fires. Under no circumstances must you harvest or use wood from the woodland. we have a good supply of kiln dried wood that burns efficiently with minimal smoke available.

    Toilets:

All toilet activities must be done in the Portaloos provided. Please do not urinate or defecate anywhere else on the site.

    Food & Rubbish:

All food waste and rubbish must be cleared away into a sealed bag or container immediately after use. Food waste & rubbish will attract unwanted visitors to the site.

All rubbish must be taken away with you when you leave. LEAVE NO TRACE

    Alcohol:

We don't mind you having a drink or two as part of your stay if you remain well behaved and continue to abide by the rules. If unsure stick to the good old military "2 can rule"

    Behaviour:

We want you to relax and enjoy yourself but please be mindful of others staying on the site and keep noise and movement around the site to a minimum/respectable level after sunset.

Failure to follow these rules could results in immediate removal from the site and also loss of deposit or a fine.

  • Will there be anyone onsite to assist/answer questions?

One or more of our Ranger Team will be onsite to assist with any queries you may have and show you where everything is.

  • Can I hire equipment?

As we know some of you will be trying Wild Camping for the first time we have a range of equipment available for hire.

    Tarp Shelters:

These are classic bushcraft tarps that are strung between trees to form a shelter.

    Hammocks:

A hammock is a great way to get a good night’s kip off the ground. Especially if you are a bit nervous of sharing the ground with other wildlife.

    Sleeping Bags:

We recommend you fetch your own bedding but just in case we have some freshly laundered outdoor sleeping bags available for you to use.

    Fire Pits:

We have fire pits available so you can get a good fire going to make a brew or cook your next meal.
